A field-tested checklist from our guides — layers, lenses, and the one bag mistake almost every first-timer makes.
After thousands of game drives, our guides have seen every packing mistake in the book. Here is what actually matters.
Layers, Not Bulk
Dawns on the savanna are cold — genuinely cold. By 10am you will be in a t-shirt. Pack merino base layers, a fleece, and a windproof shell you can tie around your waist by mid-morning. Neutral colors only: khaki, olive, stone. Blue attracts tsetse flies, and dark colors absorb heat.
Cameras & Optics
A 70-300mm zoom covers 90% of moments. Bring more storage than you think you need and a dust-proof bag — the fine volcanic soil of the Serengeti finds its way into everything.
Leave Behind
Camouflage prints are reserved for the military in Tanzania. Hairdryers are provided at every camp on our itineraries. And soft duffels beat hard suitcases — light aircraft have strict weight limits.
